StudIQ is a set of free LEGO tools run by BrickStudios. This page
explains what the site stores, why, and how to have it removed. It is
written to be read, not to be impressive.
You don't need an account
The scanner, the price-per-weight calculator, the investment estimate
and the retiring list all work without signing in. An account exists for
one reason: so your minifigure checklist follows you between devices.
What's stored if you don't sign in
- A random visitor ID kept in a cookie for about two
years. It's a random string, not your name, email or IP address. It's
used to count how many people use the site rather than how many times
one person did.
- What was looked up — set numbers, minifigures,
parts and scanned codes, with a timestamp. This drives the "Trending"
lists and shows which barcodes aren't recognised yet. It isn't linked
to you.
- Your settings — chosen theme and currency, stored
in your browser, not on the server.
- Your checklist, if you're signed out — stored only
in your browser. Clearing your browser data clears it.
What's stored if you do sign in
- Your email address.
- A hash of your password, if you signed up with one.
The password itself is never stored and can't be recovered from the
hash — not by us either.
- A Google account identifier, if you signed in with
Google. We ask Google only for your email address. We never see your
Google password, and we have no access to anything else in your Google
account.
- Login sessions, stored as a hash of the token in
your cookie, so a copy of the database couldn't be used to sign in as
you.
- Your minifigure collection — which figures you've
ticked off.
Photos you scan
When you identify a minifigure or part by photo, the image is shrunk in
your browser and sent to
Brickognize,
an independent LEGO recognition service, which returns the likely match.
Photos are not stored on StudIQ's servers. Barcode and CMF code scanning
happen entirely on your device — nothing leaves it.
Other services the site talks to
- Brickset and BrickLink — for set
details and market prices. They receive the set or part number being
looked up, not anything about you.
- Brickognize — as described above.
- Resend — sends sign-in codes. It receives your
email address in order to deliver the message.
- Google — only if you choose to sign in with Google.
Advertising and selling data
There are no adverts and no tracking pixels. Nothing here is sold or
shared with data brokers. Some links to shops are affiliate links, meaning
a purchase may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you — those
retailers see only that a visitor arrived from StudIQ.
How long things are kept
- Sign-in codes expire after 15 minutes.
- Login sessions expire after 30 days.
- Account details and collections are kept until you ask for deletion.
- Lookup history has no fixed expiry; it isn't tied to an account.
Deleting your account
Email StudIQ@brickstudios.co
from the address you signed up with and your account, collection and
sessions will be deleted. No conditions attached.
Children
LEGO appeals to all ages, and the tools here are free for anyone to use
without an account. Accounts are intended for users aged 13 and over. If
you believe a younger child has created one, email the address above and
it will be removed.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that affects what's collected, the date
at the top will change. Significant changes will be mentioned on the site.
